Company highlights how careful environmental management and data insights support poultry health, welfare and performance

CAMPINAS, Brazil – The alignment of balanced poultry breeding with thoughtful, well-managed on-farm practices was the focus of Aviagen^® at the 26th Brazil South Poultry Symposium (SBSA), held April 7–9 in Chapecó, Santa Catarina.

Rodrigo Tedesco, Aviagen’s Technical Services Manager for Brazil, took the stage on April 8 to present on “Modern Broiler Management,” sharing practical insights on how producers can support animal health, welfare and consistent performance.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, the presentation focused on understanding the needs of today’s chicken and responding with informed, proactive management. As poultry continues to play an increasingly important role in providing affordable, nutritious protein around the world, attention to detail on the farm has never been more important.

Breeding innovation: The role of data in modern poultry production

For Aviagen, modern flock management is evolving into a more data-informed and insight-driven process. Today’s chickens are highly responsive to their environment, making it essential for producers to carefully manage conditions that support their health and wellbeing.

“Birds respond quickly to what happens on the farm. Fine-tuning temperature and ventilation, managing stocking density and maintaining litter quality are all important decisions,” explained Tedesco. “By bringing together information on health, nutrition and environment, poultry producers can make timely decisions that support bird welfare, sustainability and overall flock performance.”

Tedesco also highlighted the importance of strong management practices throughout the poultry production cycle, from preparing the house for chick placement to maintaining consistent conditions as birds grow.

The focus is on using reliable data and practical experience to guide day-to-day decisions, helping ensure chicks have the right conditions to thrive. Early attention to factors such as access to feed and water, environmental comfort and flock uniformity plays a key role in supporting both animal welfare and long-term performance.
